It’s hard for me to believe at the end of this week it will be August. As someone who loves the summer, this summer has seemed particularly rushed. It’s unfortunate because I always never want the summer to end, but this fall is going to be a completely new experience for me as I begin college. Keeping that summer season in mind, let’s take a look at some light and colorful designs that bring out the warm weather in all of us.
Andre Augusto’s blog utilizes bright pink colors in illustrations on a gray background to make things really stand out. This site makes the daily dose due to the illustrations and big portfolio images, which give a portfolio which could seem very dull a much better look and feel.
Design Disease has one of the coolest designs I’ve been as a while. The Sky / Land / Water design is really fun, bright, and perfectly captures a feeling I always try to get with most of my designs - summer time. DD is also responsible for some super nice free Wordpress themes. I’ve always been a fan, and you should be too.
Linkdup is a site that’s been up for quite some time. I first stumbled upon this site years ago, and the fact that it is still there with the same design is amazing. While it seems linkdup is very much dead these days, the design remains one of my favorites for the massive use of blue. You want to feel like your surfing the net while being in the middle of a wave? Linkdup can do that to you (maybe a bit of an exaggeration).
Matti Kemppainen’s portfolio features lots of vibrant, colorful illustrations. And while the actual page itself is set on a dark wood background, the illustrations do a lot to bring the page to life - a page made up out of all images and no actual text.
Popvine gets the summer mood going with a very green site. I’m not one to give a shit as to what celebrities are up to, but there’s not denying this site looks pretty good. A flower pattern background and strong use of green get popvine on today’s list.
In the case of The Helvetia, even a splash screen can capture the essence of summer. Much like Design Disease, The Helvetia sets itself up for a nice launch with a sky meets water splash design of their own. Light colors and a color font give helvetia a spot on today’s DUI.
