DUI Daily: 7/30/08 general

Keeping up with the (sorta) summer pattern we have going in the DUI daily doses this week, today is a mix of things, starting off with coverings, where I’m showcasing some cool summertime album artwork by a bunch of independent bands. You don’t have to like the music to appreciate the vibe of the summer time captured in the album artwork. From there I’ll spotlight a couple other random things in the news today.

Bag of Toys – Afternooner [2008]
Best known for their song “Share“, which was used in Zune commercials upon the Zune’s launch, Bag of Toys newest album Afternooner looks like it could be the official wallpaper of this site.

Pepper – Pink Crustaceans and Good Vibrations [2008]
A crab on the beach is a pretty easy way to represent the summer. But a crab car on the beach? Well I guess that works too.

The Pier – Summer Sampler [2008]
Pretty cool artwork for the upcoming free Pier summer sampler, due out on August 1st. Fun and fresh.

Lists Apart

Alistapart launched its second annual survey: The survey for people who make websites. It’s quite a few pages long and asks some in depth questions including your yearly income and many design and development related questions. I didn’t take it last year, but I probably will this year. Unfortunately, the timing sucks considering I’m putting out a design trends survey for DUI either today or tomorrow. You’ll see most of the questions on our survey are going to be different though, so hopefully you’ll be kind enough to participate.

Logo letdown?

How big of a concern is the logo on DUI to you? I kicked it classic with the simple retro / sporty looking font (weird combo huh?) because I was more concerned about the content than what the site was looking like (for the most part). Yesterday though while doing some spamming promoting, some people at QBN told me the logo sucks. Does it matter that much to you? Let me know, because I’ll do some changing if I have to.
