DUI is a design blog filled with articles and information. Despite the name, this is not your local AA.

Hey everyone. Yesterday was a hectic day and I never got around to writing even a short DUI. Today’s is extra long to make up for the my slacking yesterday. If you haven’t already, please take our designer trends survey (it could use a lot more participation). I’m also going to be making some design tweaks in the coming days, as it’s obvious by yesterday’s article that a lot of the content around here is going unnoticed. Anyways, enough talk for now. It’s time for the daily.
Iconicon starts things off today with a pretty nice looking icon portfolio / shop. The icons aren’t too bad themselves, and they are all very affordable. Check them out if your into stuff like that.
Restaurant Max is a super-clean site for a restaurant out in Minnesota. Designed by Clockwork, who have done work for clients including Best Buy, the design sports solid wine reds and oranges, and has the ability to make a reservation right from the homepage. I’d say nice job all around.
C’N'C makes today’s list by pulling off a horizontal scrolling site in a time when most people hate horizontal designs. Forget the “oh man I have to scroll” attitude and enjoy viewing a site like you’re walking down a sidewalk. C’N'C sports that modern / street inspired design, but it’s still pretty cool.
Success as a freelancer or Web Worker - via Freelance Folder
Pretty nice article on Freelance Folder by Laura Spencer on some questions to ask yourself to determine if you’d be able to be a stable and successful freelance designer. Check it out if you’re trying to determine your best course of action if you’re in a similar situation.
My net friend Mubs who has done a ton of web projects recently launched Cymbolism. Cymbolism in his own words is “Color is the ultimate tool a designer has at his or her disposal to communicate feeling and mood. Cymbolism is a new website that attempts to quantify the association between colors and words, making it simple for designers to choose the best colors for the desired emotional effect.” A word is shown on the left side and you then select a corresponding color (to you), with your results being shown below. There’s also an interview with him over on Devlounge if you want to learn more about the site.
