There are lots of people out there who will say that search engine optimisation isn’t as important as other marketing methods such as viral, press releases, offline marketing and word of mouth – but in short, they’re all wrong. On the Internet, the only way people are going to find your website is either if they’re referred to it, somehow manage to type it in or most importantly – search for it. Now, I’m sure you’ll agree that the chances of someone finding you via the first two methods are slim – very slim. Which is why we need SEO or Search Engine Optimisation.
There are two main parts to SEO – both as important as each other. The first part is known as on site SEO which in short is the optimisation of your website content itself in order for the search engines to crawl it, cache it and basically have an interpreted record of what your website is about.
The second part is off site SEO which basically involves getting links from other websites to yours which in turn will increase your websites overall score in the search engines. The higher your “score” the higher you will appear in the search engines when someone searches for your keyword.
