Trademark Protection Online general

Trademark protection in the real world is a serious business. It is also equally important online. The Internet is awash with people trying to cash in on other peoples trademarks be it by taking their potential search engine traffic, registering domain names containing their brand / trademark or in some cases, even pretending to be the company themselves. As you can imagine, this is something that all companies who own a trademark on a particular word or phrase want to prevent. The biggest issue, when it comes to online trademarks lies within the PPC or affiliate marketing world. Time and time again, affiliate markets will place sponsored advertisements on the search engines, claiming to be a particular brand when they’re really not. This takes away traffic from the actual trademark owner and as a result, can be detrimental to their revenue. Of course, like with anything on the Internet, preventing copyright and trademark fraud, no matter how significant, is tough. Luckily, there are a number of tools and brand protection software on the market, such as the applications from Market Defender which can help spot trademark offenders in the sponsored results market.

This goes some way to helping protect trademarks online but there is only so much someone can do.
